Primary Coffee Morning 24 September 2019

Sep 24, 2019

Today at primary campus, the Primary parents met with the Director, Dr. Fatma Odaymat and the Head of Primary, Madam Dania Sadek for the ARIS Primary Coffee Morning!

Coffee Morning in the ARIS Community is a frequent meetup session for our ARIS parents, the Head of Schools and the Director, where the developments, aims, and aspirations of the school are discussed.

Commencing the meeting was Dr. Fatma who threw light on the ARIS Mission, Core Purpose, Core Values, and Characteristics. She also stated that the International Baccalaureate curriculum is a dynamic one which changes to suit the needs of learners, making sure that they are benefitting fully from it in all aspects, and transforming into the lifelong learners they ought to be. Inquiry is an important part of the learner’s journey to becoming an IB student and as a school, we have adopted the Kath Murdoch’s Inquiry Cycle.

Dr. Fatma also talked about the fact that ARIS is now a candidate for the fourth and final programme of the IB programme, the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP). This programme aims at providing a practical real-world approach to learning and developing skills required for lifelong learning. It also leads to higher education or employment. ARIS as such will partner up with top companies and institutions in the field of engineering, art and design, hospitality, business, and technology to provide our students with all they will need to become the best in their fields of choice.

In addition, Dr. Fatma talked about and displayed the plans for the new primary building project that is ongoing at the secondary.

The Enhanced PYP was introduced to the parents during the meeting by Madam Dania who took them through all the changes that have been made. The IB programme has now become a very student-centered programme, practicing Student Agency, where students have a voice and choice about what they want to learn and take ownership of the learning process.

ARIS as a school encourages inclusiveness when it comes to learning, as such, the Head of School talked about the Personalised Learning Department who is in charge of personalized learning for all students, including students with special needs.

Learning is an ongoing process and we believe it never ends. We are fully equipped with the resources for numeracy, digital (Seesaw, Managebac, Mathletics, e.t.c), literacy and language integration. The ARIS facilitators are highly encouraged and equipped to take care of facilitating the learning process of our students. As part of their training (which is constantly ongoing), we have arranged a workshop with Rachel French, an educational consultant, who has developed a model of Concept-Based Inquiry to promote transferable understanding.

The meeting concluded after the questions and answers session. Our ARIS parents are greatly encouraged to attend PSA Coffee Mornings as they are a great way to get to know the plans and the way forward for the school.
