Ms. Unoma Ashibuogwu

PLDCO (Primary/Secondary)

Being a teacher is a vocation to me not just an occupation. I have always been passionate about education and learning, as a life-long learner myself. I am an experienced and dedicated Special Needs Educator and Education Consultant who began full-time teaching after a career stint in Ecobank, Nigeria. In 2011, after ten years in the banking sector, I followed my calling to teach and enhanced my Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Lagos with teaching qualifications from international establishments.

I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and a Master’s degree in Special Needs from the University of Nottingham, a Montessori Certificate in Early Childhood Education from the Montessori Centre International, London and a Certificate in Leadership and Management from the Luxury Academy in London. In addition, I am a certified teacher trainer and consultant with the Centre for Teacher Effectiveness/ Time to Teach in the United States of America. I have worked in British and International Baccalaureate schools in Nigeria, Egypt, Tanzania and Kenya with students aged 3 to 18, and as a volunteer teacher in training in a Montessori nursery in the United Kingdom.

Apart from teaching, I am a certified life coach with the Olusola Lanre Coaching Academy, Nigeria and the UK/NCFE. I apply my coaching skills in the classroom to ensure students take ownership of their learning and build their self-esteem. I have also led various teacher training and parent enlightenment seminars.

In ARIS, I intend to create lifelong learners and future leaders by ensuring all students with needs are able to collaborate more effectively with their peers and view their learning challenges as stepping stones to greatness and not obstacles.

When I am not working I enjoy reading, dancing, music, karaoke, theatres, cinemas, visiting museums, sight-seeing, traveling and playing board games.
