What Happens when Metals React with Acids?

“One is always a long way from solving a problem until one actually has the answer.” - Stephen Hawking

Year 9 students work with various metals and how they react with acid. Some food for thought; the words plumber and plumbing come from plumbum (Latin word for lead) because the ancient Romans used lead for their water pipes. lead reacts slowly with water making it poisonous, so this metal is no longer used in plumbing. Copper is a preferable metal. Plumbers should be named coppers!
