Math Integration in the Year 4 Classroom!

The Year 4 students are now delving deep into learning about Measurements. Measurement is not only a skill that we use in our day to day lives but also extremely important across all disciplines of study. Thus, it is vital to have a sound knowledge and understanding of Measurements.

Over the past two weeks, Madam Dania says, the students were learning various aspects of measurements through different hands-on activities. The students were integrated into learning about measurements through measuring lengths and widths of the different objects around them! They measured dustbins, the width of their whiteboard, their books and even their friends!

As they did so, they slowly learnt about the Metric Units – Kilo, Hecto, Deka, Meter, Deci, Centi and Milli. This can be used to measure distance and mass and even capacity through units like meters, grams or litres! The students also got a chance to look at the various instruments that are used to measure these different Metric Units and systems, and learnt about the mathematical relationship between the metric units – conversion, calculation, relation and also its significance.

Soon, as they are practicing and getting an in-depth idea of Measurements, the students will go into Problem solving! It will be really interesting to see the way PYP Students engage in Mathematics Measurement Problem Solving!

Stay tuned for more.
